  • M-Audio Keystation 49e / Win 2000 pro

Hi! I'm trying to get this M-Audio Keystation 49e (USB Keyboard) to work on my old PC, which is running Windows 2000 (Professional) v. 5.00.2195 - Service Pack 4. (I know - it's a relic...but it's solid.)

The driver provided on the M-Audio website DOES NOT WORK. When I run the installer, it tells me to "Please ensure that your Keystation is turned OFF". I click "OK"...and nothing happens.

Without these drivers, the computer crashes immediately upon switching the keyboard on.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

more likely simply to install the driver it is necessary that the keyboard itself has been turned off. and only after a successful installation, it will need to connect

I understand, but the problem is that the drivers are not installing. When I run the "Drivers_Install.exe" file, nothing happens. It just tells me to make sure the keyboard is off. After I click "OK", nothing happens and nothing is installed.

Maybe it's a compatibility issue with my specific version of windows.

                  Sorry for the delayed response.

When I turn on the keyboard, windows starts to detect it "New Hardware Found", etc..etc. Then I get the blue screen, which says this:

                  *** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xBB84DA90, 0x00000000, 0x048EFFFF)

                  *** Address BB84DA90 base at BB849000, DateStamp 3803cad4 - usbaudio.sys

We can try to search the latest drivers for the USB controller on your motherboard. please indicate its manufacturer and model.
if not help then you probably need to contact Microsoft technical support and they will suggest a solution

                        Hello
                        at this page
                        http://cr.am/framed.php?url=http://s...ef=driverguide
it says that latest drivers for USB 2.0 enables automaticlly with sp4.
if they didnt then you must try to update them through Microsoft Windows Update page

or you can have this trouble because USB 2.0 are disabled in BIOS.
                        try to use this help

I'm fairly certain that those USB controller drivers need to be updated. I wish I could just download the specific drivers online because this PC is one that I've dedicated solely to musical projects, so I no longer go online with it. But every website I find that claims to have the newer drivers either tells me to do the updates online, or it's a link to some bogus "driver updater" program. Ideally I'd like to be able to download the drivers and transfer them to the PC via USB flash drive. But I guess downloading specific driver updates like that is a thing of the past...?

Anyway, I guess I'm going to have to break down and go online with it to get these updates.

I'll also check into the enabling in the BIOS thing too, just to be sure.

                          Thanks for your help!

yet you can try simply to remove from Device Manager, USB hub, and update the list of devices.
Windows should find itself the last of its service pack

Ok, so I tried removing & reinstalling the USB controller/hubs in the device manager...it found & installed all the same drivers. I went online and searched for driver updates through microsoft.com and it told me the current ones were the newest & best for this OS. And I checked the BIOS configuration...that's not causing the problem. So, I decided to go to M-Audio's website to see if they could help. I guess I should've gone there first, but I really thought it was a problem with my usb drivers. Now it's looking like a conflict/compatibility issue between this keyboard and my OS. -Although according to everything I've read, there's shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, so I went to M-Audio "support", but because of a glitch on their website, I can't sign up to ask a question. Unbelievable.

I'm just baffled as to why this keyboard doesn't work...and crashes the system every time I turn it on. I guess it just isn't going to work. I'm going to have to find some other way of doing this.

Oh well. Thanks for all your help and if you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
