I am searching for a driver for a Hitachi HTS545025B9A300 (alias Western Digital Travelstar) 230Gb drive so I can load a WIN XP Pro system from scratch onto it. WIN XP has almost no support on the MS disk for SATA drivers. The problem I am facing is that my ASUS X5DIJ laptop became unstable and as a result we completely wiped the hard drive and in the process removed the recovery partition and the MBR. By using a slave WIN 7 repair disk we were able to get it to boot into a command prompt from which we ran DISKPART to do a CLEAN ALL, a CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY, A Format NTFS and make the partition active.
Bootable CD's and a MS bootable WIN XP DVD will boot OK on this machine but a bootable WIN 7 DVD will not, despite every effort we have tried (and searched for solutions on the web). We now hope to install a fresh WIN XP Pro and then upgrade from that to a WIN 7 solution.
The factory restore DVD's refuse to boot - so we only have the XP route which may work provided we can get a suitable driver for the Hitachi disk when the XP install fails because it cannot recognise it without the correct driver.
