Canon MP610 won't scan copy to computer as PDF

I inherited the printer from my son, and downloaded the drivers from the Canon site - however, I am trying to scan a document & have it go to computer as a PDF file and .... nothing. It keeps asking if I want to use ABBYY something, I say ok...but nothing happens after that. I can't find that program in my files, am I missing something in the drivers I downloaded?
