EEE pc 900/ XP update Bios with jump drive

Has anyone tried to do an update on XP Bios using a jump drive in a different OS, Linux Ubuntu??? My SSD is small a full with outdated IE4 NO ROOM, So I am looking to update the Bios to 1006 and then replace the SSD with something larger and Win. 7 .
